What is the difference between a
"Manager" and a "Standard" installation? |
| |
|
The manager installation includes the vtdManager
program that is required for setting up your account. The standard
installation only installs the virtualTapedrive software and
associated video clips. |
| |
Do I need to install the iKey
drivers if I'm not going to use the optional iKeys? |
| |
|
Yes |
| |
What does the TechSmith screen
capture codec do? |
| |
|
The TechSmith screen capture codec provides video
support for the twenty plus training AVI video clips. |
| |
What is the difference between a
hard key and a soft key? |
| |
|
A hard key is a physical device that is more
resistant to attack than a soft key which is a double encrypted
file. Each holds critical license and account information that are
necessary for registering a computer with the storage service. |
| |
Why does the archive backup cost
less than a routine backup? |
| |
|
Archive backups are sent only once, and incur a
single transmission charge, while routine backups are stored daily
and incur transmission charges accordingly. |
| |
How is virtualTapedrive's routine
backup different from any other service? |
| |
|
When you lease a specific amount of routine
storage you are guaranteed to carry that amount of storage out
into the future and into the past. Your virtual tape
rotation of 7 days, 52 weeks, and 12 months will hold all of the
changed files.
With other services as your files change daily, you will need
to lease additional storage to cover the increase in usage.
|
| |
How do I set the start time of the
routine backup? |
| |
|
Under the file menu of the vtdManager you can
specify the start time of the routine backups by office.
Additionally, you can specify the time that your email reports are
to be sent. |
| |
Where do I lease more space? |
| |
|
Open the Account editor on the main tool
bar of the vtdManager program and go to the capacity page. In the
upper right corner of the capacity page is the Lease
button. |
| |
Why can't I see the newly leased
space in the Users editor? |
| |
|
Since the virtualTapedrive can manage multiple
offices, you must open the Site editor and allocate the
newly leased space to the desired office. Then you should be able
to use the Users editor to allocate space to individual users. |
| |
Why am I not getting my daily
email reports? |
| |
|
First you need to make sure that the "email"
options are enabled in the vtdManager's Account editor.
Next, if they are enabled, you should use the Users
editor to verify each user's email address.
Finally, you may need to check your email server's spam filter
and add system@datasystemsdevelopment.com to your permitted list.
|
| |
What should I do when one of my
users has trouble logging in? |
| |
|
Make sure that the caps lock is off, the
passwords are case sensitive.
Next make sure that the clock on the computer is correct, when
the time of the computer is too far off, the storage service will
assume that is a playback attack and ignore the connection
request.
Also, make sure that the computer is set for the correct time
zone as well.
|
| |
If I'm using the soft keys, how do
I register another computer to my account? |
| |
|
After the account was set up you should have
burned the key.bin file to a pair of CD-ROMs or copied it
to a pair of floppy disks.
Run the setup.exe program on the target computer, and run the
virtualTapedrive.exe. When the registration wizard asks for the
key file select the CD-ROM or floppy where the key.bin file
resides and continue on.
|
| |
If I start out with a soft key
install can I upgrade to a hard key install? |
| |
|
Yes. You must purchase a pair of formatted iKeys
from Data Systems Development, and then use the vtdManager program
to migrate your account information to them. |
| |
Why is there a
red circle flashing over the
vtdClient icon on my system tray? |
| |
|
This indicates that the computer's fingerprint
has changed. You will need to re-register the computer by running
the virtualTapedrive and accessing the key.bin file. |
| |
Why is there a
yellow circle flashing over the
vtdClient icon on my system tray? |
| |
|
This indicates that the computer is unable to
connect with the storage service. The likely causes are local
network trouble, or a temporarily drop in the Internet
connection. |
| |
What is the difference between a "Root"
folder and a "Protected" folder? |
| |
|
When setting up a routine backup,
root folders automatically add new files, sub folders,
and sub files. Protected
folders only add new files to the backup manifest. |
| |
My setup.exe did not include the
video files, where can I get them? |
| |
|
They can be downloaded from our Contact
page. |
