Registering your account

Soft Key Registration:

Start the virtualTapedrive program and select the license key file (KEY.BIN) and PIN code sent with your registration email. A new license file will be created (in the virtualTapedrive folder) which you will use to setup other computers. Save two copies of this license file to either a floppy or CD-ROM.

Hard Key Registration:

Insert both iKeys into the computer before starting the virtualTapedrive.

Steps for setting up your account
Start the virtualTapedrive program from your desktop. Use the key PIN code and the license file included with the email.

Setting up an account consists of a filling out a short series of forms.

First fill out your company information including your business name, the contact telephone and fax number (if available), and your billing address. Create a file encryption code to protect your data.
Next enter your user information. Specify your first and last name, create a user ID and password, and enter your email address. Create a Key PIN code to access your soft key, and a Registration PIN to register a computer with our system.
Then specify the amount of initial storage that you want to lease. Use the up and down arrows to increase or decrease usage. You can change your lease at any time, and automatically lease more routine storage space upon demand.
Select your monthly billing option: invoice or credit card. The first 30 days are free.
Review your account information! Print it out and save it to a file.
Finally review and accept the terms and conditions for the virtualTapedrive storage service. Opening the storage account will take just a few minutes.
You can consult the help file to learn about all of the other options and configurations.
Scheduling a backup

To schedule a backup, select the backup type from the main tool bar. This opens a backup window. On the backup window's tool bar select the backup view and press Select.

Pressing Select scans the computer and builds a directory tree of files. Check the files that you want to backup. For Routine and Critical backups you can right click on the folders and assign that folder as either a root or protected folder. A root folder automatically adds new files, sub-folders and sub-files. A protected folder only adds new files to that folder.

Press the Commit button to store the manifest. All backups begin immediately, except for routine backups which begin at the time set by the account owner.
