Scheduling a backup with virtualTapedrive is only a matter of choosing the kind of backup you want to perform and selecting the files you want to store.

Except for routine backups, which are sent at a specific time each day, all backups are sent immediately. When multiple backups are being processed they are sent in priority order: Critical, Shared, Snapshot, Routine and Archive.

To access our storage service you must register your computer with either a soft key file or one of the two digital electronic keys that we optionally provide. These keys, in combination with your PIN numbers and user account will take a fingerprint of your computer and attach it to your account.

Before they leave your computer, your files are compressed and encrypted. Then they are sent through an encrypted communications channel to our storage site.

Your files will remain encrypted until you retrieve them and restore them to a computer registered to your account. virtualTapedrive can simultaneously backup and restore files, and operate with out a user being logged in.

To get permission to connect to the storage site, your computer must contact our security server and receive an access token. This token gives your computer access to the storage servers for a brief period of time.

When you schedule a backup virtualTapedrive stores two copies of your files on separate servers at our secure storage site. In addition, a third copy is stored at our archive site to provide for maximum availability.
